Skillet is the self-titled debut release from the Christian rock band Skillet. Released in 1996 as an enhanced CD and audio cassette from ForeFront Records and Ardent Records, it showcases Christian lyrics with a grunge sound. Skillet was, at the time, a three-piece band composed of John Cooper on vocals, bass and piano, Trey McClurkin on drums and back-up vocals and Ken Steorts on guitar, back-up vocals and the guitar synth. Skillet has sold more than 12 million units, earned two Grammy nominations, a Billboard Music Award for their double-platinum album Awake and five Dove awards, including rock/contemporary album of the year for Unleashed, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the RIAA gold certified single "Feel Invincible," a No. 1 hit on Mainstream Rock Songs. They like Skillet too, and then you have people who like Skillet that don't even like rock music. Then we have a lot of girl fans that a lot of rock bands don't usually have because there's a nice softer feminine side of Skillet. It's not because we have girls, but we have Jen singing sometimes and there's piano and strings. There's some romance to it.

Skillet's self-titled album was the only album of theirs that they made multiple music videos for until Comatose had four. Every album in between had just one, except for Ardent Worship, which had none. The "I Can" is a basic video, and shows the band playing on a stage along with various shots of the crowd worshipping God. The video was clearly shot during an actual live show, as it adds a part on the end of the song where John Cooper witnesses to the crowd, and adds an extra portion of the band playing.

Skillet have been one of the most commercially successful hard rock bands of the past decade, with two of their past three albums going platinum and 2013‘s Rise hitting gold status. They have had a string of hit singles on both Christian and rock radio, and that shows no signs of abating with their latest album Unleashed. Album opener Feel Invincible sets the tone, as it's a dynamic track that builds to anthemic proportions. Frontman John Cooper says, It’s a fight song. Sometimes, everything in the world makes you want to give up.
