Arthur Rubinstein Vladimir Horowitz Both of them I don't like both of them Who cares. hpowders liked this post. For me, I dare say, Vladimir Horowitz was "over-rated", not for technique, but as a reliable interpreter. I could choose Rubinstein for practically anything-Brahms Concertos, Beethoven's Concertos, Chopin's Concertos, etc; and I know I will be getting fine performances, never perhaps the most exciting performances, but always among the most satisfying, musically and emotionally.

Horowitz and Rubinstein were in good general health and reasonably fit physically until the end. They had no threatening mental health issues, even though Horowitz did retire from public concerts for a while, never ceasing to play and record comme. I have the feeling that playing for others is the source of longevity for pianists like Horowitz and Rubinstein. Live concerts are a life-force and a fountain of youth. Sharing your vision with others keeps your mind young, and your body trots along.
Arthur Rubinstein was born in 1887 and died in 1982, six years after making his last recordings for RCA and giving his farewell concert at London’s Wigmore Hall. He played in public for eight decades, marking perhaps the longest career of any performing musician. Throughout the second half of that career, he was, after Vladimir Horowitz, the most famous pianist in the world. In 1949, Rubinstein and other prominent musicians (including Horowitz and Heifetz) announced that they would not appear with the Chicago Symphony if it engaged the conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler, who had remained in Germany during the war. I refuse, he wrote in a letter to the orchestra’s board of directors
Arthur Rubinstein(Polish: Artur Rubinstein; January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) was a Polish American classical pianist. He received international acclaim for his performances of the music written by a variety of composers and many regard him as the greatest Chopin interpreter of his time. He was described by The New York Times as one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. He played in public for eight decades.
Classical Music Discussion. Arthur Rubinstein vs Vladimir Horowitz. Horowitz could bring out the melody and inner melodies of pieces with an incomparable singing tone. His dynamic range and control is also quite unmatched, probably from the way his piano was custom made for him. I love the sound of the piano on the recordings such as the ones below and have never heard anything quite similar.
