The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time

In The Dark' was a Grateful Dead album made up of material that the band had been performing live for a number of years. The title references the band's real-life attempt to capture their live sound by recording the basic tracks in a darkened theater with no audience. As such, the Grateful Dead spent the spring and summer of 1971 in their original five-piece configuration - which is when these recordings were documented. Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Though the album has been known by the sobriquet "Skull & Roses", the original vertical gatefold cover unfolds to reveal the entire skeleton.
