Willie Nile's debut album was a crackerjack rock & roll record flawed by a thin production from Roy Halee that didn't let the guitars cut or the drums pound as they should. Nile seemed to realize this, as he opted to co-produce his second LP with Thom Panunzio, and together they gave Golden Down a much harder and more specious sound than Nile had his first time in the studio

Willie Nile (born Robert Noonan on June 7, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter. His early career was interrupted by various problems, but he eventually returned to recording and performing in the US and Europe, establishing himself as a respected singer-songwriter. Following his debut album, Willie Nile, he joined The Who's 1980 summer tour Re-emergence. Although he continued to write, Nile did not perform live or record again until a 1987 performance in Oslo, Norway, with Eric Andersen. A videotape of Nile’s performance in Norway prompted a Columbia talent scout to sign him to the label in 1988.
Willie Nile (1980) is the self-titled debut album by the New York singer/songwriter of the same name. Released by Arista Records in early 1980 to critical praise, it was produced and engineered by Roy Halee and featured Jay Dee Daugherty, formerly with Patti Smith, on drums.
