Nikola IV Zrinski or Miklós IV Zrínyi (Hungarian: Zrínyi Miklós, Hungarian pronunciation: ; 1507/1508 – 7 September 1566), also commonly known as Nikola Šubić Zrinski (Croatian pronunciation:, was a Croatian-Hungarian nobleman and general, Ban of Croatia from 1542 until 1556, and member of the Zrinski noble family. During his lifetime the Zrinski noble family became most powerful family in the Kingdom of Croatia.

IVAN ZAJC counts as the father of Croatian music, and his opera ''Nikola Subic Zrinski'' is his most famous and popular work back home. Indeed, when it was performed Friday night at Avery Fisher Hall, the opera was apparently receiving its New York premiere, 110 years late. During most of the second millennium it lay under the suzerainty of the Austrians, the Hungarians or, briefly, the Turks. Zajc (1832-1914) was trained in Italy and active in Vienna before he decided to return to his homeland and bring its musical life into the Western mainstream. He was an internationalist, like Tchaikovsky, rather than an overt musical nationalist, like Mussorgsky. There are Croatian tunes here and there in his work, but mostly the music on Friday sounded vigorous and direct in the manner of early-middle Verdi.

Ban Leget: opera u tri čina.
