80s Symphonic - CD. Shop. Ironically, the a-ha song is one of the weakest on the album. Smalltown Boy is gorgeous, with even more emphasis placed on Jimmy Somerville’s amazing vocals. The harp and flute on Holding Back The Years is also rather lovely.

Harken back to the days where neon purple and forest green made for a fashion-forward color pallette, Betamax technology signaled the way of the future and Aliens was the cinematic voice of a generation rather than a meager disappointment at the box office. The best '80s songs embody that sense of flashy pomp and extravagance-from "Living on a Prayer" to "Don't Stop Believin," the decade's penchant for everything over-the-top yielded tunes that make for the best pop songs and karaoke songs imaginable. So break out that Walkman, hit up the best vintage stores.

Singles are a type of music release that typically have fewer tracks than an extended play or an album. On 8 January 1983 Gallup took over the compilation of the UK music charts and continued to provide the chart data for the next eleven years

As it pertains to '80s music, or any other decade for that matter, the answer is never really quite clear. Outside the mainstream" isn't really enough of a definition. After all, there are plenty of artists who reside outside the limited universe of Top 40 radio who wouldn't be considered alternative: folk, metal, country, reggae, bluegrass, orchestral, jazz, blues, some hip-hop and others. Alternative" requires a certain edge, a particularly adventurous vibe, a very specific sensibility. Of course, it also depends on the artist, the album, the country, or even the listener. There are songs that hit the top of the singles chart in the UK or elsewhere in the world - the Boomtown Rats' 1979 classic "I Don't Like Mondays", for example, the Jam's "A Town Called Malice", or David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" - which had zero chance of ever becoming a mainstream hit in America.

Instrumental Hits of the '80s. by Christine Mulberry. 114 Love Songs From the 1960s. 80's was the baddest decade of all time. it gave all it had & nothin' kept with it. oh those good ole days will never ever come back. 2 months ago. where's its my life and wanted dead or alive by Bon Jovi? still I agree with most of your choices.

Best album and album cover of the 80s! Madonna was at her pinnacle with true blue. What Purple Rain ain't here!?! 8 The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden. Maiden's best album is inarguably one of the decade's finest

The Cocteau Twins’ third album was titled simply enough. Treasure was an adjective for the endlessly inventive melodic lines you’d find buried in these songs, and a verb for what you’d do with them for years to come. With the addition of Simon Raymonde on guitar, the Twins had moved beyond the moody, bass-driven sound of Garlands and come into their signature ethereality. The drum machine tracks added a sharp edge to some songs, especially the ’80s dancefloor mini-hit Lorelei. The band peppered the ’80s with a number of hot singles (most of which can be found on the unstoppable side A of Rio ) before departing for MOR country. The main thrust of the album was more psychedelic, using the claustrophobic tightness of punk and the vastness of Americana as head-metaphors, analogies for two distinct states of being really goddamn freaked out.
