But the /Leinsdorf version stands up well against these other versions. 4 people found this helpful. Mary Costa as Musetta: Mary Costa was a versatile singer. Other than singing operatic roles, she sang popular music during the 50's and 60's. She was the singing voice of Princess Aurora in the 1959 film Sleeping Beauty from Walt Disney Pictures. Erich Leinsdorf conducts with supreme artistry. Never before has Puccini's music been more subtle and more beautiful. However the darker aspects to this story (supposedly it's verisimo, a slice of real life) are not fully rendered. The music is far too beautiful and well-executed to have a haunting effect. Even Mimi's Death is beautiful to hear! But it's brilliant and Leinsdorf is always a thoughtful conductor, knowing how to step up the drama and bring out a lot of beauty from the original score.
