Julian Cope has a tendency to get a bit conceptual with his socio-political ranting, and I think there are some clever critiques of society to uncover here if you're willing to spend the time to listen closely. Make no mistake this is a Great Album. You see why Julian left Teardrop Explodes. The album sounds fantastic after the re-master but the 2nd disc is worthless. A lot of dub tracks and instrumentals. Where are the thought out tracks that were left out.

Julian Cope (born Julian David Cope, on 21 October 1957, in Deri, Mid Glamorgan) was raised in Tamworth, Staffordshire. He came to prominence as the singer of the Liverpool pop band The Teardrop Explodes in 1978. Cope has since released many solo albums and is a founding member of the bands Queen Elizabeth and Brain Donor. In addition to his musical career, Cope has written several books of non-fiction and autobiography.

Ostensibly conceived as a concept album regarding potential ecological and social collapse, Cope wisely seeks to set moods rather than create a straitjacketed story line. As a result, Peggy Suicide can be enjoyed both as an overall statement and as a collection of individual songs; its sequencing is excellent to boot, moving from song to song as if it was always meant to be that way.

Saw the show at Hammersmith Palais where he lacerated himself with the mic stand and was. Kind of lost touch after that, but saw this show was on at the Roundhouse (a favourite haunt of mine from the late 70s) and decided to revisit old friends. This was Julian Cope solo at his best.
