Andy C ‎– Sour Mash . Any one else pop for a sample from a genesis album on outer limits? I know I wasn't exspecting that! Reply Notify me Helpful. Not the best RAM release by any means, but a very solid (and sought after!) 12 from the one Andy C. Reply Notify me Helpful. Blinding first release from Ram, production sounds dated now but you can't argue with the innnovation. Interesting listening for those who have followed the RAM label, you can definitely hear the proto-sound of later Ram releases in these tunes.

Andy c was just 16 when this was released , how did a 16 year old in 1992 afford a sampler, computer, dat recorder & synths , then the money to set a label up
Conjulhala
Plus he could have writen the tracks on an amiga like every one else making hardcore D and B at the time did..
Naril
To the best of my knowledge, the studio was Ant Miles's, who was a family friend & the money to set up the label, was a loan from his sister. I know she designed the artwork for the label.
Rishason
He used his mates gear to make the tracks. Registering a name for a record label was and still is cheap. You can do it out of your bedroom. He borrowed a grand off his uncle to get the first 1000 copies pressed and it took off from there... The only thing you should question is how a 16 year old was so talented!

Pretty sure I heard Ant Miles lived round the corner and had a studio that he used for free and family members put up the cash to help the release.

essential. this is a 4 tracker of a-sides with excellent production and dancefloor usability.

This release sold around 2,500 copies, initially self-distributed by Andy C & Ant Miles. It was funded with a £1,000 loan from Andy's uncle.

Well that's a genius move and a bag of sand well spent

Pressed at Orlake in Dagenham (one of three record pressing plants owned by EMI Records in the U.K., it was sold off in about 2001). Orlake was the only vinyl pressing plant in the U.K. that could produce square vinyl records and shaped picture discs.

For me the track on this awesome Ep has to be Mind Rise with it's haunting acid bleep sample's which were also used on Ram's elusive next release in the track Losin U on the Eastern Promise Ep. Like most of of Andy C's early production's this Ep is a fine collection of the pioneering early breakbeat Hardcore sound.

Ram kick starts with an amazing release! The quality of sound is quite poor but thats what you get for producing vinyl in 1992!! The bad sound quality only makes it that much better because you can understand how old skool these tunes are. The A Side, Visions is a monster track, this shows Andy C is and allways will be a king in drum n bass & jungle.
Dandr
All about Mind Rise on this one for me, slamming breaks sit perfectly alongside a killer bassline making this an essential part of any good late 92 set. The only problem was that its not the easiest of tunes to mix, though I think the RAM boys made up for that with their later releases! Not the best RAM release by any means, but a very solid (and sought after!) 12 from the one Andy C.
