Aurora is Susumu Hirasawa's fourth solo album. His first main solo album in three years following a period where focus was directed on the Defrosted P-Model, Aurora, which Hirasawa has said can be considered a second solo debut, is a turning point in his career. Unlike the previous solo albums, Aurora doesn't feature guest musicians, with almost all instrumentation handled by MIDI-compatible devices.

Aurora (オーロラ?) was an album produced by Susumu Hirasawa and released on February 25, 1994. Of note is that some of Hirasawa's later albums included different versions of several of these songs. For example the song Aurora itself was later released in Solar Ray as Aurora 2 on 2001, and later rereleased as Aurora 3 in 2006.

A tightly knitted disc full of emotion, laced over a mechanical orchestration. Susumu got his first big break in the late 70's as the frontman for the electronic experimental band P-Model. However, in the late 80's, Susumu decided to embark on some solo adventures, his first being 1989's "Jikuu no Mizu (translated in English as Water in Time in Space)"

This is a great album, flat out love it. It's sort of the 'missing link' between his three earlier, very eclectic-sounding, solo albums, and the more electronic-oriented albums after, and for this reason I think it's one of his more important solo works, at least on a historical standpoint. The first three tracks are slower, dramatic pieces that embody Hirasawa's powerful voice and minute attention to production detail and instrumentation. Personally none of the three I find really that memorable, but I still admire them. Tracks such as Song Of The Force, Ringing Bell, and In The Square are stronger focuses on his interpretations of worldly traditional music, while the more electronic-driven Take The Wheel (from which he later borrows to create the foundation of his hit Forces) and Snow Blind. My two favorite tracks, however, which are among the album's most unique, are The Double Of Wind, an odd classical-styled piece with great multiple vocal work, and Island Door, a lengthy, emotional composition that sort of sums up every other persona of Hirasawa's music we hear in this album. There really is something here for every kind of Hirasawa fan.
