The ballad reached the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, peaking at in August 1980 and hit on the R&B chart for two weeks. It became a gold record. The song was written by Sam Dees and produced by Larry Graham. It was used in the movie Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Everybody knew One In A Million, but I was Fonkin' On with the rest of the tracks! Soooo glad that it was finally released in the States on CD. I just went & bought the MP3 - my eyes have gotten too old to try & read CD liner notes!
