James Holden - The Inheritors James Holden has released hardly any music of his own since his first album, 2006's The Idiots Are Winning, but he hasn't been a wallflower either.

A much-anticipated release, this sophomore album from James Holden arrives a staggering seven years after his lauded debut, The Idiots Are Winning. 80 Music Critic Score How the Music Critic Score works. Holden's second album, The Inheritors, is a raging bonfire of electro-acoustic composition. His kindling is the open-field psychedelia of groups like Cluster and Popol Vuh, with a healthy amount of Boards of Canada's dusty gaze. Broken into 15 tracks but playing like a long, evolving piece, The Inheritors oscillates between buzzy pastoral beauty and harsh rhythmic duress.

The Inheritors (album). Holden had not intended to perform live, but he put together a live show after Thom Yorke requested he support on a North American tour with Atoms for Peace

If Holden was already starting to push the boundaries on his debut, The Inheritors is techno music not so much fragmented as smashed into tiny pieces; rocks ground into sand and cast into the ether.

Holden ‎– The Inheritors. What a fine album, definetly much better than the first Album "The idiots are winning", this one brings more musics, with a good coherence, the musics evoke nocturn atmospheres in rural places with massive florests and stone buildings where the only lights come from fireplaces and torches. This is like a epic soundtrack, with dark, emotional and relaxing tunes, All tracks are very satisfying, higly recomendable!!!

The Inheritors’ (named after a William Goldman novel) harks back to the proggy and experimental frontier spirit of the first age of synths. The same unchartered course that bands like Tangerine Dream and Popul Vah once took.

From this point forward, The Inheritors decided they needed to accelerate the end times by any means possible. This marks the beginning of their crime spree, as we believe they decided they needed seven trumpets to trigger the events of revelation. On a humorous note, while a total of seven trumpets were stolen, during this rash of theft, the Inheritors also snatched two trombones and a French horn. Clearly whoever was in charge of this plan didn't properly explain to the thieves exactly what a trumpet looks like. He chuckles a little to himself, and a few chortles erupt from.

The last 5 years just happened and I only now remembered to check if this record was affordable yet. Guess not.

Fals? There are loads of affordable copies - it was never for free as I remember..

Picked this up in a record shop for £18.99 the other day so it can be found!

For me, not the usual "James Holden sound" I was used to, like back in the early 2000's up till 2005. It was the caterpillar's Intervention that caught my attention... When heared it the first time, I played it 5 times in a row. This track is truly amazing and somehow reminds me when a Western movie reaches a final climax. Actually, it should have been used in "The hateful eight"! Quentin tarantino, you've missed out on this one ;-) For me, this album proves that James masters all kind of genres...
Early Waffle
There seems to be a very cool short bonus interlude after the title track on this version.Anyone else noticed this?

The album is woven of cabbage fringe of bone marrow, turn-minced through velvet cords upon amethyst luster of sugar skulls' scrutiny. A plasticine Bosch being unknit with eagle feathers into shreds of the inquisition, and heavy gait of gothic arcs with orbits of tubes, varying in caliber, directed inwards (in the fractal-torn halo of unwhite clouds there is the moon, shining with electrodes, rendering all kinds of manifold hairpin-like minutiae of memory processions with shells)

There is something truly powerful about this album. The sounds are brutal, the arrangements are spectacularly complex, unpredictable and completely f*cked up, but the end result is out of this world AMAZING! Love all the odd little audible details that reveal themselves on repeat listens. Sounds almost like they were sampled both from the gates of hell and paradise. A masterpiece from a true genius!
Haracetys
The sounds are not really brutal, but there is an organic and ethereal quality to this album, which in some way links it to the recent "Colundi Sequence" compliation by Aleksi Perälä.
