Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the debut studio album by Canadian turntablist Kid Koala, released on Ninja Tune in 2000. It peaked at number 33 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. It was nominated for Alternative Album of the Year at the 2001 Juno Awards. The album took Kid Koala 4 years to record, more than the 6 months he originally told Ninja Tunes it would take.

That's why Kid Koala's full-length debut, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, is so important: It's capable of making turntablism engaging to a wider audience. It isn't that Kid Koala is necessarily the greatest DJ spinning, although he's clearly in the top tier. It's that he's able to bring so much personality and entertainment value to his work, which makes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome arguably the most appealing turntablist album yet released.

It's a classic djs cd, It's very interesting if you like scratching and original mixing. Lot of jazz samples mixed to create a new sound, Kid Koala use his plates as an another instrument with a very creative result. For me It's piece of history of '90 and of ninja tune in general. To add It's also the little comic book, a constant of Kid Koala album also in the following albums.

This album is true art and original enough to age even better. it's brilliant its fun. rarely go together. never anything just like it. i am trying to say i like it a lot.

I have a discrepancy with the notes for this item:I own two copies of this record and neither have the barcode number shown above. Both of my presses have barcode number 6 25978 10341 8. The first copy, which I bought back in 2000, says "(p) & (c) Ninja Tune 2000 Made in Canada" on the bottom back of the jacket, the barcode is printed on the jacket, and the side A runout groove reads "ZEN 34 A". The other copy, bought more recently, has the same date but reads "Made in England", the barcode is on a sticker, and the runout groove reads "ZEN 34 A-2-1-1". There are other subtle differences between the two but these are the most obvious.Is my first copy a Canadian press not listed on the release page? Are they both Canadian presses? I'm wondering if the barcode listed above is only for the UK...? If you own this album and you have any info regarding where or when you bought the album, please let me know in order to help me determine which presses I have, thank you =)

For me, this is the equivalent of musical slapstick. Or musical farce even. Maybe a mix of both. Because this shit sounds like samples getting fucked up, in a humorous way. Why should good music be so serious all the time? Expect to hear some of the most random samples ever put together, and expect to laugh at some of the unexpected juxtapositions of sounds. This music is great for a laugh. It may not be good for everyday listening, but you should listen to it at some point.

JUST DO IT

I'm not sure if it is on every release but my copy of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has a game on it called Vinoids, which is pretty much the same as the classic asteroids game, just that the asteroids are replaced with records.

Slightly easier is the following: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a compilation of funny sounds created with some turntables and a huge portion of humour, placed in "songs". It's not an album you'll listen to everyday but it's more like a "look what I bought, man"-album. It's great. Oh, yeah, last thingie: when Kid Koala plays live, you see a rather short yellow man, laughing and scratching with an unbelievable amount of fun. He knows exactly what he's doing. And I know it doesn't always look like that. Always finish with a quote: here is what the cover says: "Free CD with this book". Kinda clear, no?
