Suffocating the Bloom" is one of the most amazing prog masterpieces from the 90s, and most certainly the album that made Echolyn the top prog act from the USA to my eyes - well, ears anyway. All of this describes Echolyn quite well, particularly their album Suffocating the Bloom. On my version of this album there are over 20 tracks (because the epic is split up), so I'll just go over some highlights. The epic (A Suite for the Everyman) is the epitome of modern Symphonic progressive rock in typical Echolyn style, full of fantastic musicianship, catchy melodies, and entangled song structures.

Suffocating the Bloom Lyrics. I feel that I'm always sawing through the branch That I'm sitting on, I hope it will never break free But I know that my cut's not the real problem here It's a cancer that's in the body of this tree. And all the boughs will break and all the leaves will crumble If they're not allowed to grow They'll surely fall to be swept away And the bloom will feel the rake When the blossom takes it's tumble If they're not allowed to grow they'll surely fall

Suffocating the Bloom - Студийный альбом от echolyn. В альбом вошло 21 треков. Продолжительность альбома: 01:11:04. A Suite for the Everyman: A Cautious Repose.

In 1992, the band released "suffocating the bloom," now generally regarded as an early '90s progressive rock classic. The album honed echolyn's trademark two-and three-part harmonies with tight, contrapuntal instrumental musicianship, and featured the 25+ minute A Suite for the Everyman. Lyrically it deals with the loss of childhood innocence and idealism. The album was released in March of 1995 to tremendous acclaim in progressive rock circles. People spoke of echolyn as the best chance at the time for wider mainstream acceptance of progressive music, however Sony maddeningly refused to support touring, echolyn's best way to reach new ears and their musical lifeblood, which marked the beginning of the end to echolyn's short-lived major label career. The band headlined the inaugural ProgDay in North Carolina in September 1995, without label support and shortly after were dropped by Sony.

Hellmaster
So, if memory serves me (and it's 20 years ago so it might be!) these were 500 "bootleg" copies the band made with normal grade paper as way of getting around Sony owning the masters. My copy is 11/95 on it as well, but I got it a few months before then - perhaps July or August. It's a legit release, and it's the 3rd of the 3 original versions.

I remember I bought this one direct from Christopher Buzby, echolyn's keyboard player at ProgScape 1996, Baltimore MD, USA. It was my first visit ever to the US and our main goal was to see Iluvatar play live.
