Superjoint, formerly known as Superjoint Ritual, is an American heavy metal band formed by Phil Anselmo, Joe Fazzio, and Jimmy Bower in the early 1990s, later to be joined by Hank Williams III, and Kevin Bond. They were founded by Anselmo parallel to his membership in Pantera, but became a full-time endeavor a few years later after Pantera's dissolution. The whole point of Phil Anselmo leaving Pantera to focus on Superjoint Ritual full-time was to get back to basics - to a more "street level. As evidenced by SJR's second DVD release overall, Live at CBGB's: Changing the Face of Music Through Uncompromising Anti-Image, Anselmo has easily accomplished this. While Pantera made a name for themselves by ripping it up with anthemic heavy metal tunes, Superjoint has more of a hardcore and underground metal edge to theirs - you just have to look at such song titles as "Fuck Your Enemy" and "Stealing a Page or Two.
