CATHEDRAL - In Memoriam Set For Reissue. 28 мар 2013 : CATHEDRAL: 'Tower Of Silence' Video Released. A clip of live footage recorded in Groningen from 1991 of the song "All Your Sins, taken from the DVD portion of the In Memoriam CD/DVD package, can be seen below: Where most demos are little more than a dry run for the first album, In Memoriam still has its own distinct and important identity in the Cathedral canon. The debut LP that followed, Forest Of Equilibrium, has a sombre, devout, melodic and mystical grandeur all of its own - but In Memoriam has a far murkier, earthier, more deathly intent

In Memoriam serves almost as a probing period of the doom metal style that is found both here and the perfection of its most celebrated endeavor. In Memoriam shows the Forest of Equilibrium aesthetic budding, though here it has yet to reach fruition. The gap in quality between demo and album is clear; the track is decent, just not excellent. A Pentagram cover ( All Your Sins ) is thrown in afterwards, appearing more like Cathedral’s own child than the actual source to which it pays homage. A far cry from what Cathedral would eventually become, In Memoriam remains a beast of old school doomy death metal, a sound that would endure into the classic Forest Of Equilibrium. The added collection of live tracks constitute the bulk of In Memoriam, and features versions of the first three songs as well as a couple of cuts from the band’s second demo.

Cathedral's In Memoriam is one gem of a kind. It displays melancholic doom metal, with all the somber beauty from a Candlemass album plus a sheer intensity on the sound. Though raw (it's a demo) this recording is worthy, not only because includes the hard to find "Echoes from the dirg. live vinyl (recorded in Holland, pressed in Mexico, from where I'm, by the way) but because is a cornerstone to any DOOM metal fan out there. It's like, for a raw example (sorry) the Ulver's Nattens Madrigal of Doom. Exact Audio Copy V. 9 prebeta 5 from 4. May 2009. EAC extraction logfile from 8. December 2009, 13:45.
