Simian Ghost is an alternative music act from Sandviken/Gävle, Sweden, consisting of Sebastian Arnström, Erik Klinga, Mathias Zachrisson and Wilhelm Magnusson. It was initiated as a recording project by Sebastian Arnström. It topped the critics chart in Sweden and was voted record of the year by the readers at Dagensskiva.

Sweden’s Simian Ghost have confirmed details of their next album release. The Veil is a 18-track effort, dropping on 8 September. We’ve tried to develop our songwriting, in part by looking back in music history, the band say in a press release. The last album we did during a couple of summer months, taking breaks to go swimming and so on. This time we really isolated ourselves, sitting in our cellar room with a couple of cheap microphones and lot’s of instruments. You can watch their video for recent track Never Really Knew below

Like some sort of musical spectre, Sweden’s Simian Ghost haunt the grey area between ‘alternative’ and ‘pop’, offering the nuance and depth you’d expect from the nebulous former genre combined with the instant appeal of the latter. As if to exemplify this, their newest album The Veil is pretty long for a pop record, with its 18 tracks running to just over an hour. It would be a shame if that proved to be too daunting for some listeners, as The Veil has a lot to offer.
