Charlie Lee Byrd (September 16, 1925 – December 2, 1999) was an American jazz guitarist. Byrd was best known for his association with Brazilian music, especially bossa nova. In 1962, he collaborated with Stan Getz on the album Jazz Samba, a recording which brought bossa nova into the mainstream of North American music. Byrd played fingerstyle on a classical guitar.

Combining bossa nova timing with clear, bright, jazzy guitar lines, Charlie Byrd recorded several sides for Columbia Records in the 1960s, the best of which were collected on the double LP The World of Charlie Byrd in 1973. This Wounded Bird release combines all four sides of that LP on a single disc, and it flows with a light, sunny feel, sparked, of course, by Byrd’s impeccable guitar playing

Charlie did several bossa nova recordings between 1963 and 1965 (including the smash album, Jazz Samba, recorded with Stan Getz), and I think that Jobim was featured on one of those recordings. I'll make another post when I have something more definitive to offer. I think Charlie did a recording with the vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, but I doubt the number you heard from was from that album. The label referred to was probably the Concord Picante label, which features the Latin and bossa-flavored recordings that Concord has done.
