Persistence of Time is the fifth studio album by the American thrash metal band Anthrax. It was released on August 21, 1990 through Megaforce Worldwide/Island Records and was nominated in 1991 for a Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category. with Children episode, "My Dinner with Anthrax").

Persistence of Time' was released is August 1990, two years after its predecessor 'State of Euphoria'. Entering the new decade, Anthrax surprised many of their fans and released their heaviest and darkest effort to date. Now where had a lot of humouristic traits of the band's music gone, many were asking. The production alone does not an album make. What we need are good songs! Music-wise, this album is one of the best sets of the songs from Anthrax. Anyway, by putting four longest songs at the beginning of the album (from 6 and a half minutes to over seven minutes in length) the band took a brave step. While maintaining sharp and thrashy sound, it's also more heavier and more oppressive. The tempos are more middle ground this time around.

Their classic 80’s thrash album Among the Living comes up in any conversation about the band’s best work, as does Persistence of Time. On this release, Anthrax made an image change and diverged from the silly goofball characters they’d portrayed during the I’m the Man and State of Euphoria days. They forsook their Jams shorts and tried to look more metal, in accordance with a shift to a weightier brand of heavy than they’d produced before. The riffs were more aggressive and the lyrical content more thoughtful
