His drum solo on "Sing, Sing, Sing" (1937) elevated the role of the drummer from an accompanying line to an important solo voice in the band

It's worth pointing out that the whole idea of this album was rather odd - Krupa put together a four-man percussion group, and together with a big band (containing a couple of familiar names like Hank Jones and Eddie Wasserman), set about recording a set of jazzy classical covers. This seems to have been part of a wider trend, and whilst this album isn't as good as Ellington's stab at the Nutcracker, it's certainly better than some of the other efforts out there
