The Franklys - Are You Listening? album flac

We were fortunate enough to sit down and chat with half of the ladies from the energetic rock band The Franklys while attending a recent UK tour stop. During the conversation, we chatted about the tour and the band's debut album, 'Are You Listening?'.

The Franklys, comprised of Jennifer Ahlkvist, Fanny Broberg, Zoe Biggs and Lexi Clark, had a single ‘Castaway’ out later in the year and I went along with my partner to the single launch-another excellent performance of songs that have been described variously as ‘classic old school rock’, ‘fun filled garage rock with a pop twist’ and ‘a noisy garage rock buzzsaw’! I got home and played ‘Castaway’ a few times but I felt it didn’t quite do them justice, it’s good but I was pretty sure that it wasn’t an accurate reflection of their quality,they were/are much better than it indicated

Are You Listening? is their debut album and, frankly, you can’t not. Garage in style, they do not do quiet. The Franklys’ world is brash, playful and empowered. Are You Listening? is littered with their romantic escapades and lessons learned. The first single, ‘Castaway’, has them confronting a cowardly man with vocalist Jen Ahlkvist shouting him down like Medusa in a leather jacket. The album version mucks about with false finishes and generally toys with your affections  . Puppet’ has a brilliant repetitive hook, ‘You never wanted me’, a lyrical feature that is a real strength throughout the album. This track is definitely one to play on repeat. There are some great moments on it when all the instruments bond.

Are You Listening?’ The Franklys demand an answer, scrawling it across the cover of their debut album. We made a conscious decision to try and make as versatile record as possible with a mixture of energetic pop rock songs together with garage, punk, indie, hard rock and funk. To celebrate the release of Are You listening? album, The Franklys embark on an extensive tour and play a special album launch show in London at The Old Blue Last on May 10th, where the band promise a hairy rock fest!
