It is clear that this album was created out of love and respect to the genius of Laura Nyro, a singularly unique singer/songwriter that died before her time. We are lucky that she left us the legacy that she did. That said, this compilation of nods to some of her biggest hits is a mixed bag at best. Phoebe Snow’s fresh take on Time and Love first threw me off as it is so completely different from Laura’s version. this cd is not laura nyro. it is a tribute to laura nyro as interpreted by different artists. i think part of the reason that some people are less than enchanted with the cd is that they are expected singers striving to be laura nyro. that is not the case. whether it is jane siberry's creative medley, or sweet honey in the.
