The Warrior River Boys actually formed backed in the fifties. In 1984, band leader Garry Thurmond's health problems necessitated that David Davis, then only 23 years old, take over. With the help of musicians Mitch Scott, Al Lester, and Charlie Cline, the band started making history and toured from coast to coast. Radio DJ and emcee Ray Davis has also been an avid supporter and mentor for the Warrior River Boys. Previously with the Rounder Records label, the band has a prolific recording history, and they're now with Rebel.

It charted at number one on both the Top Soul Albums and Jazz Albums Chart as well as number three on the Billboard Pop Albums charts.
The Warrior River Boys includes Robert Montgomery on vocals and banjo. A member of the band since 2008, Montgomery has won dozens of bluegrass-picking contests, most noteworthy the 2004 National Old-Time Banjo Championship at Uncle Dave Macon Days in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was featured on the Cumberland Highlanders TV program on RFD-TV, and he has appeared as a guest musician on CDs by Marty Stuart and Bobby Osborne. Marty Hays sings and plays bass for the Warrior River Boys. With the band since 1995, Hays loves classic country music. Guitarist and vocalist Stan Wilemon recently rejoined the band. He was in the group in the early 1990s, and recently he has performed with the Gary Waldrep Band. In addition to the concert, Terry’s Café, 201 South Pruett Street in Paragould, opens on Bluegrass Monday nights to welcome bluegrass music fans.
In an era when every conceivable variation on bluegrass has been tried, and every imaginable sonic update has been grafted onto the traditional bluegrass template, it's refreshing to hear a group like David Davis & The Warrior River Boys.
Album Smoke + Mirrors (Deluxe). As a child, you would wait and watch from far away But you always knew that you'd be the one That work while they all play In youth, you'd lay awake at night and scheme Of all the things that you would change But it was just a dream. Here we are, don't turn away now (Don't turn away) We are the warriors that built this town (This town) Here we are, don't turn away now (Don't turn away) We are the warriors that built this town (This town) From dust
