Karthago were founded in Berlin by Joey Albrecht (guitar, vocals) and Gerald Luciano Hartwig (bass). In 1970, they engaged the Bolivian percussionist Thomas Goldschmitt (mainly hand percussion) and got a recording contract with BASF.

Karthago is a Hungarian rock band, one of the most popular during the eighties, playing American-style west coast rock. The band was founded in 1979 by Ferenc Szigeti, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1981, which sold 17. 00 copies and established the band's fame. After winning an international contest in Austria, they got a two-record deal for Western Europe. They toured Austria, East Germany and other Soviet Bloc countries.
