Shadow of the Sun is the result of a few months of Moon Duo wrangling with a new and unsettling way of being. Working both in a dark basement in Portland, and above ground in sunny San Francisco, these new sounds and songs veered dramatically from groove to groove, revealing sonic textures the duo had not previously explored. The song "Night Beat", with it's woozy dance rhythm, is an attempt at finding joy and acceptance on this new, shifting ground, while "Wilding" plays off the familiar Moon Duo sound, taking refuge in a repetitive, grounding riff-scape

Genre: Psychedelic Rock. It is strange to know a band or an artist in their fourth or fifth album. You start to wonder how they became what they are. You take the risk of dislike them or love them even more. Shadow of the Sun" won me over. Repetitive yet a solid and enthusiastic psychic rock portrait of danceable tunes, this record gave me sure i don´t want to take any risks right now. They can wait.

Moon Duo‘s third full-length LP, Shadow of the Sun, was written entirely during one of these evolving phases - a rare and uneasy rest period, devoid of the constant adrenaline of performing live and the stimulation of traveling through endless moving landscapes. This offered Moon Duo a new space to reflect on all of these previous experiences and cradle them while cultivating the album in the unfamiliar environment of a new dwelling; a dark Portland basement. It was from this stir-crazy fire that Shadow of the Sun was forged. Mixing with Jonas Verwijnen in Berlin, allowed for a creative catharsis and dissolved the album’s formal technique into a cool and paradoxically sane sound of confusion.
