Portrait of a Legend: 1951–1964 is a compilation album by American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke, released posthumously on June 17, 2003 by ABKCO Records. The disc covers Cooke's entire career, from his early 1950s beginnings with the Soul Stirrers to the posthumous 1964 single "Shake"
This 24-track CD includes all of them, starting with the privately pressed 1964 EP by the Vendors (with Dave Hill on lead guitar and Don Powell on drums), and moving on to the three flop 1965 singles by Steve Brett & the Mavericks (with Noddy Holder on guitar and backing vocals).

By the end of summer 1964, Vinton had had eleven Billboard Top 40 hits (including three No. 1's), prompting Epic Records to compile his first greatest hits album.
