Mitch Ryder (born February 26, 1945) is an American rock and roll singer from Detroit, Michigan, who had a string of hit songs in the 1960's fronting his band The Detroit Wheels.
Mitch Ryder (b. William S. Levise, J. February 26, 1945) is an American musician who has recorded more than two dozen albums over more than four decades. Ryder is noted for his gruff, wailing singing style and his dynamic stage performances. He was influenced by his father, a musician. As a teenager, Ryder sang backup with a black soul-music group known as the Peps, but racial animosities interfered with his continued presence in the group.
Mitch Ryder Sings the Hi. .has been added to your Cart. Not a greatest hits record but instead a collection by the unsung hero of Detroit rock 'n' roll and blue-eyed soul blowing through cover after cover, giving his own unique treatment to everyone from The Supremes to The Drifters, Allen Toussaint to Rufus Thomas. This is no Pat Boone cleaned up for the refined upper middle class honky set, no sir, this is rough and tough balls-to-the-wall R&B that rocks as hard or harder than the originals with Ryder's signature guttural howl leading the way.

Not that the first Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels single, "I Need Help", exactly set the charts afire. That waited until late 1965 when "Jenny Take A Ride!" climbed to as The Wheels welded Chuck Willis' ". Rider" to Little Richard's "Jenny, Jenny", and cannily tossed in an advertisement for their live show along the way (check how the backing vocals change to "See Mitch Ryder" during the second verse). Instead of immediately returning to Detroit, Ryder took a down-home detour to Memphis to record The Detroit-Memphis Experiment album with Stax luminaries Booker T. & The MGs and The Memphis Horns for Do. iner notes containing phrases like "After being raped by the music machine that represents that heaven-on-earth, New York b/w Los Angeles" and "Mitch Ryder is the.
