Day-In Day-Out Stay-In.

The lead single from Never Let Me Down wasn't exactly David Bowie at his best, but it did show that even at the height of his commercial profile during the eighties he could tell have at least a little bit of fun with his intended radio hits. That said, the musical arrangement and delivery is among the most anonymous of his career, the combination of heavily echoed drums and synth horns only slightly offset by the buried mock choirs and occasional snips and snarls of guitar feedback  . Still, he sounds like he's enjoying himself as he goes, which is more than could be said than much of the album the song came from.

David Bowie sprang the biggest surprise the pop industry has seen in years by recording his new single Where Are We Now? and a new album in complete secrecy. Producer Tony Visconti, guitarist Earl Slick and others in the know reveal how it happened – and spill more about the singer's plans. In the meantime, he says, he's trying to work out which of the songs on The Next Day feature him. "You gotta understand, I haven't heard the finished thing yet. He was still finishing and polishing the lyrics when I left. I can't actually figure out the titles I've seen.

In July 1967, David Bowie released the single Love You Till Tuesday which failed to reach the charts. Most would’ve given up, loads did, but not our David. All of a sudden he came out with a whole bunch of brilliant tunes. His Hunky Dory from 1971 is in my opinion – a masterpiece, that still sounds as good today as it did in 71. Kooks from the album written about his newborn son, is one of this writer’s all-time favourite songs.
