In 1968, he released his first solo album, Recital of Italian Operatic Arias (also known as Bel Canto Domingo). The album, conducted by Nello Santi, received the Grand Prix du Disque. The following year, Domingo recorded his first recital album for RCA Red Seal and his first complete opera in the studio, Il trovatore, with Leontyne Price and Sherrill Milnes, also for RCA. Domingo recorded primarily for RCA throughout the 1970s. He and Milnes would record together several more times, in both complete operas and recital discs. Plácido Domingo: My Operatic Roles.
