My Life is the second album released by singer-songwriter Iris DeMent. Released in 1994 on Warner Bros. it peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The album was dedicated to her father, Patric Shaw DeMent, who died in 1992. Spin ranked My Life as the 3rd best album of 1994 unbreakable gentleness as a modern epiphany about rural values.

Iris Luella DeMent (born January 5, 1961) is an American two-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter. DeMent's musical style includes elements of folk, country and gospel. DeMent was born near Paragould, Arkansas, the youngest child of Pat DeMent and his second wife, Flora Mae. The baby of the family, she was Pat DeMent's 14th child, and Flora Mae's eighth. Iris's mother had harbored dreams of going to Nashville and starting a singing career.

DeMent's debut album, "Infamous Angel," appeared out of nowhere in 1992 on the small Philo label with a ringing endorsement from John Prine on the cover. It made a big enough splash to be picked up by Warner Bros. and now DeMent has beaten the infamous sophomore jinx with an even better album, "My Life," produced in Nashville by Jim Rooney with musical help from Jack Clement, Stuart Duncan and Robin & Linda Williams. The collection includes songs by Mother Maybelle Carter and Lefty Frizzell plus eight DeMent originals just as powerful in their rural simplicity.
