Fleet Foxes is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock band Fleet Foxes, released on June 3, 2008 by Bella Union. The album debuted at number eleven on the UK Albums Chart, where it eventually peaked at number three, and garnered wide praise from critics, many of whom named it one of the best albums of 2008. Producer and Pecknold family friend Phil Ek had earlier helped Fleet Foxes record their first demo and used his influence to assist in shopping it to record labels.

Fleet Foxes may have a firm grasp on rock and folk history, but they never play to their record collection. Rather than revive a particular scene or re-create a lost sound, the Seattle quintet cherrypick their ideas from a broad spectrum of styles, pulling in Appalachian folk, classic rock, AM country, and SoCal pop to create a personal synthesis of the music of their peers, their parents, and even their grandparents. The album opens with a short tune (titled "Red Squirrel" on early leaks but not listed on the CD) that could be a field recording sung by a small-town congregation 50 years ago. It ushers us into Fleet Foxes' old world; after a few bars, the song darts into the heraldic "Sun It Rises", which sure enough sounds like someone's idea of a sunrise over an evergreen mountain.

The band consists of Robin Pecknold (vocals, guitar), Skyler Skjelset (guitar), Christian Wargo (bass, guitar, vocals), Casey Wescott (keyboards, vocals), Morgan Henderson (multiple instruments) and J. Tillman (drums, vocals). Previously signed to the Sub Pop and Bella Union labels, they are now signed to Nonesuch since 2017.

The most inviting song set to come out of the k movement was a reminder of the simple power of harmony. On elegant pastoral jams like Tiger Mountain Peasant Song 22-year-old Robin Pecknold used CSNY-style timbres to build a clapboard-church choir of sound that seemed to exist in its own world.
