Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell is a studio album by American singer-songwriters Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell. The album spawned two hit singles and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Gentry toured briefly with Campbell and performed on a number of American and British television programs and specials.
In October 1968, his fifth chart-topper would also become Gentry’s second, as Bobbie Gentry & Glen Campbell became the first-ever country album by a duo to top the Billboard chart. Campbell, in fact, had held four of the top five positions on the chart a week earlier, setting yet another astonishing record. Let It Be Me was an intimately romantic tune popularized in the mid-Fifties in France as Je t’appartiens. To date, dozens of artists have recorded the song, and it’s also had additional life as a popular wedding tune.
Album: Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell, 2007. Let It Be Me" is a popular song originally published in French in 1955 as "Je t'appartiens". The music was written and first recorded by Gilbert Bécaud. The french lyrics were penned by Pierre Delanoë. The English version was written by Manny Curtis and was performed in 1957 by Jill Corey in the television series Climax!. It became popular worldwide with an English version by The Everly Brothers and later with the duet by Betty Everett and Jerry Butler.

Unlike Gentry, Glen Campbell could do no wrong. Like Gentry, however, Campbell had come from rural poverty; he had left home as a teen to join his uncle’s band, eventually pitching up in LA to work as a highly versatile session guitarist. He had also toured with The Beach Boys in the mid-60s, subbing for Brian Wilson. Little Green Apples’, ‘Let It Be Me’, ‘Heart To Heart Talk’: all are easy-listening silk, light on the ear and good for the mood. However, the finest cover on the album is the sunshine-pop classic ‘Sunday Mornin’’, originally written by Margo Guryan and made famous by Spanky And Our Gang. On one level, it’s a gently optimistic hum.
