JACK BRUCE was born on May 14, 1943 in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Continual upheaval of home-life meant his education was spread over 14 different schools during his childhood. JACK BRUCE took up the jazz double bass in his teens, winning a scholarship to study cello and composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In 1966 JACK BRUCE joined the successful pop R'n'B and blues band Manfred Mann in 1966, (. The album was a worldwide hit, leading to a short tour with Mitch Mitchell (drums) and pioneer fusionist Larry Coryell (guitar), during which he got the called to join Tony Williams Lifetime (with John McLaughlin and innovative organist Larry Young), for their second album 'Turn It Over'.
