At the time of their 1985 debut, The Audrey Hepburn Complex, they bore little resemblance to the vibrant, eclectic dance band who signed with Matador almost ten years later. Here, they sound closer to uninspired easy listening. The musical direction just does not transcend their influences and contemporaries (Burt Bacharach, Motown, Everything But the Girl, Swing Out Sister), and it doesn't help that chanteuse Mamiko Sasaki has such a dry, limited range.
