Engaging the ld Vlado Perlemuter to record for them turned out to be something of a coup for the fledgling Nimbus label in the early 80's; the results were both artistically and commercially rewarding and this disc of the twenty-seven Chopin "Études" might well be the pick of the bunch. Despite his relatively advanced age, Perlemuter evinces no signs of diminution in his famously fluid line and dexterity of touch; he plays the fearsome runs and counterposed rhythms with remarkable facility. The warmth and clarity of the engineering is ideal, the notes provide brief but pointed guidance and the presentation is attractive; a lovely album.
