Getting Better" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The song has been said to be musically reminiscent of the Beatles' hit single "Penny Lane"
It was one of those things. Ultimately, Jones opted to stay in the band and stuck it out for another seven years until the untimely death of John Bonham brought the whole enterprise crashing down. Played bass on Paul McCartney’s 1984 album, Give My Regards to Broad Street. Following the demise of Led Zeppelin, while Robert Plant launched a successful solo career and Jimmy Page hooked up with Paul Rodgers to form the supergroup the Firm, Jones essentially picked up right where he left off before he joined the band, working the session scene.
The idea of "Getting Better" came to Paul McCartney while he was walking his dog, Martha. The sun started to rise on the walk and he thought "it's getting better. It also reminded him of something that Jimmy Nichol used to say quite often during the short period when he was The Beatles drummer. This song was a true collaborative effort for Lennon and McCartney, with Lennon adding that legendary part about being bad to his woman. Sgt. Pepper is a McCartney dominated album. Lennon wrote some wonderful pieces for the album, with extensive contributions from Paul, George Martin and the rest of the group. Katie from Calgary, AbOk, so who owns the rights now? really the Beatles should own all their music. that doesn't seem fair. I like how optimistic this song is. even if it's got the negative parts in it. Eric from Portland, OrGomez performed the version in the Phillips commercial.
It's Getting Better (Remastered).
It's getting better all the time Better, better, better It's getting better all the time Better, better, better. I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved Man, I was mean but I'm changing my scene And I'm doing the best that I can (Ooh). I've got to admit it's getting better (Better) It's a little better all the time (It can't get no worse) I have to admit it's getting better (Better) It's getting better since you've been mine.
Getting Better I wrote on my magic Binder, Edwards and Vaughan piano in my music room. It had a lovely tone, that piano, you'd just open the lid and there was such a magic tone, almost out of tune, and of course the way it was painted added to the fun of it all. It's an optimistic song. I often try and get on to optimistic subjects in an effort to cheer myself up and also, realising that other people are going to hear this, to cheer them up too. And this was one of those. The 'angry young man' and all that was John and I filling in the verses about schoolteachers.
I have to admit, it's getting better, It's getting better since you've been mine. Getting so much better all the time. It's getting better all the time. Better, Better, Better It's getting better all the time. Better, Better, Better. I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved. Man, I was mean, but I'm changing my scene, And I'm doing the best that I can. I admit, it's getting better, a little better all the time.
I leave it in drum machine world and I don’t bother getting a good sound on drums. I get the kicks and snares in, to move the riff along. It’s very important that the drum part is correct; that’s something I learned in Zeppelin. I looked inside it and it says John Paul Jones 1979. So that’s sort of a vintage instrument now, I guess. Andy also made me a little collapsible guitar that fits under an airplane seat; it folds in the middle, and all the strings stay on. It’s very impressive. For the next album, Andy just made me a baritone ukulele. It focuses the mind, and you get better cohesion. Even if the songs you’re writing are different styles, they feel as though they were done at the same time and you don’t get stale ideas.
