The Melos Quartet, also called the Melos Quartet Stuttgart, is a German string quartet musical ensemble based in Stuttgart, that was in existence from 1965 to 2005. They should not be confused with two other chamber groups of similar name, the Melos Ensemble of London or the Melos Art Ensemble (an Italian group). Violin I: Wilhelm Melcher (1940–2005). Violin II: Gerhard Voss (. 939), from 1965 to 1993.

Open-minded listeners looking for unfamiliar string quartets by a master composer of the same period as Beethoven and Schubert will likely be delighted by the six quartets of Luigi Cherubini. Written mostly between 1829 and 1837, the Italian-French composer's quartets are in the standard forms in the usual four movements. He fills those forms with entirely new content, which, if not as vigorously argued as Beethoven's nor as gloriously lyrical as Schubert's, is nevertheless elegantly expressive, consummately dramatic, and often utterly unexpected. Cherubini's quartets have.

Also includes the parts for Quartets No. and 3. This file is part of the Sibley Mirroring Project. I-Catalogue NumberI-Cat.

Luigi Cherubini's string quartets, for those unfamiliar with works composed for Paris in the "quatuor concertant" manner, are quite distinct in style from the more familiar Viennese quartets of the composer's contemporaries Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Hummel. Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5: Melos Quartett of Stuttgart No. 2: Melos Quartett of Stuttgart, but with an enthusiastic "special mention" for Hausmusik, for its convincingly alternative approach in this problematic work No. 6: Quartetto David.

Cherubini's First Quartet dates from 1814, the year in which Baillot began introducing Viennese quartets to a Paris that had previously been largely given over to the more virtuosic delights of the quatuor concertant and quatuor brillant; his other five were written between 1829 and 1837, when he was in his seventies. They therefore represent a move away from the theatre (which he had virtually abandoned by 1813 and where his most influential compositional work was done), into a world of more intense contemplation, paralleled by a greater attention to sacred music. Luigi (Carlo Zanobi Salvadore Maria) Cherubini Composer. Melos Qt. 3. 4.
