Sound-System is the thirty-sixth album by jazz pianist Herbie Hancock and the second of three albums with the Rockit Band. The second of the three Rockit band albums, Sound-System was another smash for Herbie Hancock. Winning his second Grammy award for Best R&B Performance (his second-straight award), this album tried to capture the success of the previous Future Shock, with some more twists and turns.

Metal Beat continues Herbie's hip hop experimentations with more diverse sampling and beats. Karabali moves the album in a completely different direction from Future Shock, offering a fusion of jazz and world music. Junku then merges this with the hip hop experimentation by fusing world music and electro. People Are Changing shifts the album into R&B by offering what, to me, sounds like a Stevie Wonder inspired cover of Timmy Thomas' song (I think the original had a more Jimmy Cliff sound). Tracks like Hardrock and Metal Beat sound as if they were done during the Future Shock Sessions. Karabali, and Junku bring to mind Hancocks African sounding phases through his career. All put a very good set maybe though just a little too much like Future Shock.
