Zion and Esmerine). Return to the Sea was re-mastered in England for the European version of the album, and was released there by Rough Trade Records on April 3, 2006. In North America, the album was released on the upstart label Equator Records on April 4, 2006.

Islands have continued with their brand of unconventional pop. In fact, they actually released 2 albums of new material in 2016. Following an unplanned and startling breakup of The Unicorns in 2004, Nick Diamonds and Jamie Thompson continued to play together, immediately starting Islands and recording Return To The Sea. The album was received well, and high profile tours ensued before members started leaving, and even though by 2009 Diamonds was the only original member left, Islands have continued with their brand of unconventional pop.

With members sporting names as pretentious as Neil Diamonds and J’aime Tambour, one would have expected something a little more gripping from Islands, but they seem to be content to rely on their reputations as former members of Indie ‘greats’ The Unicorns instead of making an album that doesn’t sound like every Indie band ever; it practically sounds like a compilation. of Indie pop from 2000 to present.
