You've Come a Long Way, Baby is the second studio album by English electronic music producer Fatboy Slim. It was first released on 19 October 1998 in the United Kingdom by Skint Records and a day later in the United States by Astralwerks. Cook recorded and produced the album at his home studio in Brighton, known as the House of Love, using an Atari ST computer, Creator software, and floppy disks

Oh my, talk about albums that haven't aged well! The whole album seems very much tied to its time, there really is no timeless quality to this. Most tracks (The Rockafeller Skank being a prime example) are gimmicky up to the point of being downright annoying and the sounds/samples are pretty crude (and not in a good way!). Of course the album has its high points - Right Here, Right Now, Praise You and Acid 8000 are all fantastic tracks but the rest are severely lacking in comparison. I suppose the biggest disappointment is that the album sounds so different to what I remembered.

The album was recorded at Fatboy Slim's home studio called "The House of Love" in Brighton, England. The album was a critical and commercial success, containing four top ten singles.

In 2008, Cook formed the Brighton Port Authority with David Byrne. Cook has been responsible for successful remixes for Cornershop, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Groove Armada, and Wildchild. Cook adopted the pseudonym Fatboy Slim in 1996. Cook says of the name: "It doesn't mean anything. I've told so many different lies over the years about it I can't actually remember the truth. It's just an oxymoron – a word that can't exist. It kind of suits me – it's kind of goofy and ironic.

Find out more about our use of this data, and also our policy on profanity. Find out more about our use of this data. Twelve years on from the release of this second album, some things have inevitably changed. A lifetime away from hard-partying origins, Norman Cook’s raised two kids, celebrated a celebrity marriage, reconciled a celebrity marriage, hit the bottle, beat the bottle and, when he had the time, released heady collections of genre-defining anthems. At times, Cook’s life has played out replete with typical DJ clichés. But his place in the dance music annals as Fatboy Slim has long been confirmed
