To please either everyone or no one, some of the operas were recorded complete with dialog (. The Pirates of Penzance) and some with no dialog (. The dialog is on the same track as the musical number preceding it, which means you can't program your CD player to skip it. In most of these performances, there is an overall sense that everyone is pretending, rather than acting. I am pleased finally to have a complete set of the D'Oyly Carte Gilbert and Sullivan operas; However, I am disappointed that not all of the operas are complete: they are missing the dialog. The songs and music are great and verfy enjoyable in their own right; however, the point of the songs is to enhance the story.
