What Now My Love is the sixth album by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, released in 1966. It remained at on the Billboard Album chart for nine weeks, the longest of any album released by the group. By this album, the Brass were playing only a token Mexican-themed song or two per album, the rest of the tracks being pop hits and Broadway tunes
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass - from What Now My Love (instrumental) (1966). Ed Ames - from The Ed Ames Album (1964). Elga Andersen - from the EP C’est L’amour Chéri (in French: "Et maintenant") (1961). Philippe Andrey - from Bonjour Mozart (in French: "Et maintenant") (1962). Long John Baldry - from The Pye Anthology (1998). Shirley Bassey, from the album Let's Face the Music (1962); it spent four months on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at Gilbert Bécaud (in French: Et maintenant ) (1961). Roy Black (in French: Et maintenant ) (1969).
With this album, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass settle into their hitmaking groove, the once strikingly eclectic elements of Dixieland, pop, rock, and mariachi becoming more smoothly integrated within Alpert's infectious "Ameriachi" blend
By the time this album was released in 1966 Herb Alpert could do no wrong. The Tijuana Brass sound was everywhere. And it's little wonder why. For this album Alpert combines show tunes, movie songs and some originals and creates tight, exciting arrangements. What Now My Love", the only hit single (surprisingly), is done as a quick samba with a grooving rhythm section underneath. Freckles" is a rollicking song with some cool trombone licks. Perhaps the best song on the album is Sol Lake's "Memories Of Madrid".
