Little Feat is the first studio album by the rock band Little Feat. It was released in 1971 on Warner Bros. The album was recorded mostly during sessions between August and September 1970. Its sound is in a similar vein as the band's more widely known later recordings, such as 1973's Dixie Chicken and 1978's Waiting For Columbus. The record features Little Feat's Mk. 1 line-up, with Roy Estrada on bass. It was the first of eight albums by the band before its initial 1979 break-up.
Little Feat, quite obviously, was over. But, after a period of mourning, Payne and company regrouped in an effort to complete what would become the last album of the Lowell George era. Released in November 1979, the album proved to be an arduous tribute to what was left of Little Feat, completed in George's unmissable absence. It was a very difficult record to complete because of that," Bill Payne told Rhino.
Lowell George played slide guitar, sang and wrote some memorable songs, leading his band Little Feat all over the world as one of the biggest acts of the 70. Lowell Thomas George was born in Los Angeles in 1945, grew up in the Santa Monica hills and attended Hollywood High School. He played harp from the age of five and took up the flute at school, preferring the cool sound of West-coast jazz players like Gerry Mulligan to the Rock’n’Roll he heard on the radio every day.
Carrie & Lowell is the 7th Studio Album, by Singer-Songwriter Sufjan Stevens. Sparsely instrumental, Stevens marks a return to his indie folk roots. Carrie & Lowell since its release has gained universal acclaim, with many critics calling it Steven’s finest work yet. Many songs were inspired by the passing of his mother, Carrie, in 2012, as well as his stepfather, Lowell. Stevens released a live version of the album and a mixtape of outtakes and remixes in 2017. Carrie & Lowell Q&A.
The self titled Little Feat album was the one Little Feat album I never owned back in the day, in the early eighties after Lowell George's death when I first got into the band. The music on the album is unlike anything Little Feat would ever do again. It is more mainstream rock like ("like" because none of this ever got onto the radio) in that it is less funky (for lack of a better work) than what they would do later, but also more experimental. The band shows a lot of good musicianmanship (if that's a word); everyone plays all out all the time.
Lowell and Bill bonded immediately and began to collaborate. Lowell was still with the Mothers, so Bill hung with the fine crowd of young musicians – Jackson Browne, Fred Tackett, Martin Kibbee, Ray Collins, Richie Hayward – drawn to Lowell’s pad. In those early sessions, Lowell and Bill churned out deep and diverse songs: Truck-Stop Girl, Strawberry Flats, Brides of Jesus, Gunboat Willy. But it was the last album in which Little Feat would be a rootsy four-piece band. After the album was released, Roy Estrada left, and Paul Barrere, Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney entered.
