Album We Are The Chantels. Maybe, if I pray every night You'll come back to me And maybe, if I cry every day You'll come back to stay Oh, maybe. Maybe, if I hold your hand You will understand And maybe, if I kissed your lips I'll be at your command Oh, maybe. I've cried and prayed to the Lord To send you back my love But instead you came to me But only in my dreams. Maybe if I pray every night You'll come back to me And maybe if I cry every day You'll come back to stay Oh, maybe. It was first recorded by the Chantels on October 16, 1957 in a doo-wop style with Barrett playing piano, released in December 1957, and climbing the charts in January 1958. It reached in the pop chart and in the R&B chart. It was subsequently described as arguably, the first true glimmering of the girl group sound. Rolling Stone ranked it on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

This combines the first two Chantels albums recorded for End Records between 1957 and 1961. The track listing for the group's first album consists of little more than both sides of the first six singles the girls recorded for the label. As such, it's almost a greatest-hits package, as it includes "Maybe," "Every Night" and "I Love You So," all very big hits for the group.

The following releases were less successful but End did release an album originally titled We Are the Chantels. The original cover had a photo of the group The group was dropped by End in 1959, and Arlene Smith embarked upon a solo career. Harris left to pursue a college education.
