Om Unit - Threads It's taken a long time, but London producer Jim Coles is finally getting his dues. After years of playing the hip-hop game as 2tall, he reinvented himself as a bass producer under the name Om Unit, but it was his jungle-footwork bootlegs as Philip D Kick in 2011 that really held the secret  . The four vocal tracks on Threads are overwrought and out of place. They make the album one full of high peaks and deep pits (rarely do I feel so compelled to hit the skip button). That, coupled his conservative approach, makes Threads a decent album when it could have been a great one.

Jim Coles (born ca. 1980), professionally known as Om Unit, is a Bristol-based electronic producer and DJ known for his work in electronic music and drum and bass. Originally producing jungle as a teenager in the 1990s, he then turned to turntablism under the name 2tall. and released several Albums under this moniker in the 2000s.

This album has an average beat per minute of 125 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 66/178 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page. Album starts at 84BPM, ends at 66BPM (-18), with tempos within the -BPM range. Try refreshing the page if dots are missing). Recent albums by Om Unit.

Threads is the debut album from London producer Om Unit. Across its fifteen tracks Threads articulates Om Unit's musical journey from his beginnings to the present. It references his hip hop background, in the swung out, hypnotic headnod of 'Wall of Light' and the positive message of 'Just Sayin'', a collaboration with the mysterious Gone The Hero, (who will be stepping out of the shadows on Jneiro Jarel's Label Who imprint in 2014,) and touches on the music that has impacted him in recent years. such as dubstep, the bassweight of which anchors the album

Threads is the debut album from London producer Om Unit, to be released on Civil Music in November 2013. While this is a debut full length for Om Unit, real name Jim Coles, it is in fact the producers fourth studio album, following from work in the 2000s under the name 2tall. Having reset the clock on his artistic output in 2010, Coles has spent the past three years refining a unique sound as Om Unit via collaborations with Machinedrum on Planet Mu, releases on Goldies Metalheadz, dBridges Exit Records and Civil Music, his own Cosmic Bridge label and the short-lived Phillip D. Kick alias that.

I've had this album on my Wantlist for a couple of years now, so it was about time I grabbed a copy. I first heard of Om Unit in 14 when I bought Inversion on Metalheadz. I love that album, and pretty much everything Om has released since, especially the Torchlight Trilogy on Cosmic Bridge and Aeolian on Civil, as well as Sleepwalkers on Metalheadz.Where to start? Well, for a start, I think this is a great album. It will definitely appeal to a lot of different listeners. It's Bass Music or EDM, but I'm a junglist and I love it. Highlights? Well for me, it's hard to pick out any tracks that are better than any of the others because I rate the whole album highly. Folding Shadows, Reverse Logic, Deep Sea Pyramid, Nagual, and Healing Rain are all excellent, and Jinadu's vocals with that sound on The Silence just make me wanna rush out and buy an 808. Three favourites are probably Jaguar, Wicker and Pearl and Governor's Bay. Deep and richly produced, this is Bass Music or EDM at its finest. The whole album is littered with great vocals, drums, bass, loads of 808 sounds and some deep sub. Absolutely top drawer. Again I think that this is one of those albums that will be worth a bit in future. Definitely one of my favourite albums at the moment, and this may be high praise indeed but I may rate this as highly as Goldie's Timeless, which is my favourite all time album. If I'm still listening to this album in 20 years, I'll say it is - but for now - a quality album. Worth every penny of the 20 quid I had to pay to get the vinyl.

Wicked album. Tempos are all over the place, but what do you expect from Om Unit? I only wish the songs where spread out over more vinyls so mixing them together wouldn't require a 2nd purchase of the same album, but oh well. Seems to be the case these days. Well worth the change, though.
