The Catbird Seat is a rare session from the short-lived trio of pianist Dwike Mitchell, bassist Willie Ruff, and drummer Charlie Smith. Originally released in 1961 on Atlantic Records, these are straight-ahead jazz interpretations of "So in Love," "Con Alma," "I'll Remember April," "Street of Dreams," "Gypsy in My Soul," and the Mitchell original "The Catbird Seat
Took piano lessons since he was five. Teamed with Willie Ruff. Their duo recordings and club dates in the late 50's were well received by both listeners and critics. In the early 60's they opened their own club in New Haven, Connecticut, switching from time to time to the Hickory House in New York.

Excellent pianist with good technical abilities. This is the first Atlantic recording in their own club, great Atmosphere.
