Complete your Ahmad Jamal collection. this fucking record is so good. Criminally undervalued symphonic jazz, exotica record. Flip it over and take a look at Jamal.

This LP was a change of pace for pianist Ahmad Jamal, whose trio (with bassist Israel Crosby and drummer Vernell Fournier) is joined by a 15-piece string section arranged and conducted by Joe Kennedy. The interpretations are generally pretty, but with enough variety to hold one's interest. Among the nine selections are Hoagy Carmichael's "Ivy," "Tangerine," "Ahmad's Blues" and "I Like to Recognize the Tune.

Jamal at the Penthouse" sounds fantastic in stereo! I've had the vinyl for ages and this issue truly does it justice. I first heard this album (vinyl) back in 1961! I also own the CD now and after 53 years, I'm still in love with this album. Jamal is always interesting to listen to and it just makes you feel soooooo good.

this fucking record is so good.Criminally undervalued symphonic jazz / exotica record. Flip it over and take a look at Jamal. OMG so cool. Now the music itself, i mean, God was in the stood, there is so much space, but at the same time the recording is so full. Twinkling keys, incredible drumming, the bass is honey bass, the strings have a panoramic sound, thin and haunting and stretched like taffy, and they add an "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" vibe that could be a negative but it's quite apparent Jamal and God were on the same page.

I have this release i think EXCEPT the label lettering is in different locations. LP-646 is at the bottom. Matrix is K8-OP 5677-1B.Should I make a new release for this label variation?

This lp has a discrepancy on track B3. The rear cover lists it as "I Like To Recognize The Tune", while the side 2 label lists it as "I'd Like To Recognize The Tune".
