Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (Arabic: علي بابا والأربعون لصا‎) is a folk tale included in many versions of One Thousand and One Nights. Antoine Galland, who heard the story from Syrian storyteller Hanna Diyab, added it to the Nights in the 18th century. It is one of the most familiar of the "Arabian Nights" tales, and has been widely retold and performed in many media, especially for children, where the more violent aspects of the story are often suppressed.

Herman de Vries (born 11 July 1931 in Alkmaar) is a Dutch artist. He typically stylises his name in lower-case as herman de vries on his artwork 'to avoid hierarchy'. De Vries works and lives with his wife Susanne in Eschenau near Knetzgau, Germany. De Vries began making art on the theme of "nature and plants" in 1953. He began painting in the late 1950s
