Ton Steine Scherben (Literal English translation: "Clay Stones Shards" or "Sound Stones Shards") were a German Anarchist rock band formed in 1970 in West Berlin, Germany when the members were all around 20 years of age. Singer Rio Reiser usually told journalists the name was taken from a description by pioneer archeologist Heinrich Schliemann of what he saw when he first came to the site of ancient Troy.
Keine Macht für Niemand (No Power for Nobody) is the name of both the second album and best-known song by the band Ton Steine Scherben. The double album, released in 1972, is also sometimes called "die Weiße" ("the white one") in reference to its simple cover with a white background and black text. The album as a whole, as well as the song Keine Macht für Niemand heavily criticised social and political ills. The lyrics call for resistance against the extant system
IV is a double album released by Ton Steine Scherben. Because of the black album cover, it is also referred to as die Schwarze ("the black one"). It is a collection of various influences from folk to punk and marks a departure from the band's earlier work, even though it continues the change that began with the previous album Wenn die Nacht am tiefste. .

The first volume in the "Welt In Scherben" series was actually titled "Ton Steine Scherben". Hearing this record in Eastern Bloc in 1998 totally blew me away. I'd had quite high hopes for it anyway, but it managed to exceed them. Beginning with a mid tempo kick, the head destroying sagezahn bassline quickly fades up and promptly funks the freak out of you.
Well-known for the highly political and emotional lyrics of vocalist Rio Reiser, they became a musical mouthpiece of new left movements, such as the squatting movement, during that time in Germany and their hometown of West Berlin in particular.
