Unity Band is a studio album by American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny along with Chris Potter on saxophone and bass clarinet, Ben Williams on bass, and Antonio Sánchez on drums. This is the first Metheny album featuring tenor saxophone in 32 years (since 1980's 80/81). The album was released through Nonesuch Records on June 12, 2012 and received the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album during the 2013 Grammy Awards, marking Metheny's 20th Grammy win. All music composed by Pat Metheny.

Unity Band introduces a new Metheny ensemble of the same name with Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, longtime collaborator Antonio Sanchez on drums, and the up-and-coming Ben Williams on bass. The album features nine new Metheny compositions, "each one exquisitely performed and uniquely absorbing," says the Observer. All About Jazz says Unity Band is "unequivocally one of Metheny's finest-an album that's sure to find its way to 'best of' lists for 2012. Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. Through rehearsals, they winnowed the music down to the nine tunes on the Unity Band album. It’s funny, I have heard so many guitar/tenor records that have been clearly influenced by that 80/81 sound, and yet I really wanted to try to take it to a different place this time, even though that record was certain to be a reference point along the way, Metheny says.

The band consists of rapper Tim Holland aka Sole, producer Bud Berning aka Skyrider, t William Ryan Fritch, and drummer John Wagner. The band has released three albums on Anticon, Fake Four Inc and Equinox Records. In 2010, Sole and the Skyrider Band toured across the United States with Ceschi Ramos and Dark Time Sunshine. URB premiered the video for Factor's remix of the song "Mr. Insurgent" from their second album, Plastique, on March 1, 2011. Sole and the Skyrider Band released their third album, Hello Cruel World, on Fake Four Inc in 2011

Metheny says the Unity Band gets its name from an area where I grew up in Missouri is the home of Unity Village, the world headquarters for the Unity Church. Although I personally am not a member, the connection between the Fillmore family that founded Unity and my family goes back almost 100 years. There was a Unity Band that performed every Sunday evening in the summers when I was growing up. My dad played in it when he was young, my older brother Mike was a featured soloist starting at a very young age, and I even played (French horn!) in the band for a few years.

But the presence of the forcefully fluent Chris Potter on saxes and bass clarinet doesn't make the Unity Band any less of a Pat Metheny group, right down to their nimble fingertips.
